Sparring Equipment
All students with the yellow belt or above need protective equipment for sparring. Here is a list of items you may need:
1. Head Guard. Tae Kwon Do is known for its high kicks and student may encounter kicks to the head in sparring. The head guard is a cushioned helmet like a boxing helmet. Student is not allowed to spar without a head guard.
2. Chest Protector. As with the head guard, student is not allowed to spar without a chest protector.
3. Forearm Pads. These guards protect the lower arms when blocking kicks and punches.
4. Shin Pads. They protect the lower leg from hard blows.
5. Mouth Guard. It is a very important item to protect your teeth during sparring.
6. Groin Guard. It is a very important protective item for male students. In Tae Kwon Do, kicks that are lower than the belt are not allowed, but they sometimes go astray. When such accident happens, a groin guard can surely protect you from injury.
Based on your belt rank, you may need some of them or all of them for sparring, please ask Master Kim for more information.
